Itinerary:
Day 1 : Kiruna:
Head to the Kiruna Lapland Tourist Office for everything you need to know about exploring, getting active and taking tours. Take a tour down into the world’s largest underground iron ore mine; mining is still one of Kiruna’s most important industries.
Day 2 : Midnight sun activities:
Experience the midnight sun with a guide, on your own, from the top of a mountain or just by strolling into Kiruna into the middle of the bright night. Visit the Nutti Sami Slida centre at Jukkasjarvi and see all things ‘Sami’ – meet the reindeer, throw lasso, enjoy a traditional Sami lunch, and learn about their culture.
Day 3 & 4 : Explore or get active with hiking, fishing and rafting Jukkasjarvi is a great base for midnight sun activities. From white water rafting and laplandic surfing, to cross country biking and stand up paddling, river fishing on your own or with a guide and summer ice sculpting at the Ice Hotel, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Or take a Midnight Sun tour on an Icelandic Horse, starting at Puoltsa, close to Kiruna.
Day 5 : Depart.
Things To Do:
Historical Jukkasjarvi: Take a guided tour by river boat down the Torne River. Learn about the 400 year old village and the indigenous Sami people.
Challenge Park: Get your adrene line kicks here and get up high above the Lapland scenery. There are rope and wire tracks for beginners and the more experienced.
Rent Your Own Equipment: The Ice Hotel is a great place to hire equipment, from canoes and cross country bikes, to stand-up paddles and fishing rods.
Cross Country Biking Through The Taiga: Explore forest trails and the untouched wilderness of the Jukkasjarvi on cross country bikes. You might spot wild moose and reindeer.
Baking In The Timber Smoke Hut: One of the oldest buildings of Kukkola culture village is the Timber Smoke Hut which has been used for grilling whitefish for many years.
Canoeing In Beaverland, Gunnarsbyn: Guided paddle tour in calm waters among wild beavers in their real habitat. A chance to see beavers, birds, moose and maybe reindeer.
Stadshus, Kiruna: This public building won Sweden’s most beautiful public building prize back in 1964. See the art collection and a display of Sami handicrafts.
